Taitung canvasses an area of 3515 km2, covering 9.78% of the total land area of Taiwan. It is the third largest county in Taiwan, next to Hualien and Nantou. Taitung is also the longest county, owning 166 km of coastline, 2/5 of the total coastline of Taiwan. Population 234,123, Taitung has 16 townships, categorized as the following:

Clear Water Blue SkyStrolling in the midst of the Carp Mountain, wading in the Pacific Ocean, mountains cut through the heart of the city, and at the end of the horizon emerges the sea. Beautiful landscapes of merging hills and oceans are no surprises in Taidong City. Zhengqi Street is a street of hawker fair as well as the famous Fruit Street. The Coast Park and Forest Park has Pipa Lake and Egret Lake. The Fugang fish port, Jialulan famous for reversed stratum, Prehistoric Museum filled with pioneer history, the Beinan Cultural Park, and the beautiful Taidong airport decorate the city into a beautiful garden.

Eight-Arch Bridge

Amei is the majority ethnic in the Chenggong Town. It is the proud owner of the longest coastline in Taidong. With the grace of the black-tide, Chenggong is a one off the largest fishing center in the East Coast of Taiwan.The abundance of fish resources drove the prosperity of the fishing industry and turned the place into the largest Township of Taitung.  The diversity of the coast geology endows upon this Township the greatest natural beauty.

In recent years, relocation of the East Coast National Park Administration to the sea steps south of Duli drives the development of tourism in the township.  Well planned tours facilities plus abundance of ocean tourism resources and the vivid colors of Amei culture, Chenggong has become the most important tourism town in Taidong County.

Town Tour Bicycle Route

Guanshan Town, on the other hand, has an expanse of plains, making it highly suitable for agriculture. Rice is the most important crop. In addition to the beautiful grains of Guanshan rice, there are beautiful farms and gardens built by the pioneers. Whatever there are settlements there are traces of history. Historical landmarks record the tough days of outback migrants. All these are precious assets, highly potential for development of tourism. Recently, opening of the town bicycle trail and water park beginning to attract tourists who love to ride the winds through the fields, around the ponds of ducks, and into the memories of the good old days.

Beinan Township is rather hilly. The famous Zhiben Hot Spring area is right inside of this township. It has become one of the major tourist destinations in Taitung, famous for the hot spring and beautiful forests. There are tens of Hot Spring hotels for you to choose from.  And the only Beach Park in Taidong County is Shanyuan Beach Park. It brings you closer to the ocean and completes the choices for hot fun holidays.

Parachute Luye Township has abundant water resources, mild climate, and fertile soil. The government has been developing this area into a major tea production area in East Coast of Taiwan. The Fulu Tea has being quite popular. In recent years, residents of the area are also working hard to develop its recreational agriculture. The Luye Terrace is now home to parachute sports. The local administration is expected to develop this township into a new tourist destination through improvement of the access roads and upgrades of recreational facilities.

Rape FlowerChishang Township test the best climate to grow rice of the highest quality.  Rice grown in this township has large grants and excellent texture. It was once appointed offerings to the great Emperor of Japan. Chishang meal boxes are famous nationwide because of rice. The Dapo Lake is the most interesting site in the valley of the Central Ridge. The lake has rich ecology, offering abundant fishes, prawns, lotus roots, and water chestnuts to the local residents.

Dawn

Taimali is one of the major farming villages in southern Taidong. It is an important fruit production area, especially the large and sumptuous Shijia fruit, which has almost become a synonym of Taimali and brought wealth to the local fruit farmers. Passing up the black tide has also made Taimali a major fishing field. Fishing enthusiasts crowd the beach nonstop and the net fishing ground is open off shore of the Sanhe village. Nets are retracted twice a day and the sight of net fishing creates a special fishing culture in this place.

Taimali Beach, known to be comparable to the Hawaii Beaches, stretches to a few kilometers with wavering shadows of coconut trees. Tens of thousands of people flocked into this speech upon the turn of the millennium to greet the first daylight of the new century. Jinlun hot brings wild fun and golden flowers of the day lilies drive the popularity. This golden country, the home of sunrise, is unfolding its charm exactly like a sunrise and calling visitors into its bosom.

It has the thick charm of a small-town. In the midst of tribal architectures and nostalgic flares, residents here are mostly farmers and fishermen. Lychee is most the famous in this small town - juicy and sweet it is one of the most popular souvenirs. Offshore of Dawu, a rare gusher has been found – it contains rich sodium and has become a transient stop for returning fishes.

Scenic Donghe

Donghe Township has several tourist spots, such as Muzi Bay, Up-running Stream, Dulan, and Jinzun, along the coast. Moving north, Jinzun is the only tombolo in Taiwan and Donghe Bridge has the most beautiful Mawuku Valley. The sky glances into the ocean - it is a Shangri-La in the mist of the waters and the hills. Walking along Mawuku Creek into the Taiyuan Basin, prehistoric megalith stands.  Winding streams, rising riverbeds, and fragrance of fruits - elves, dancers, wanderers, the imagination go wild inside of this mystical valley.

Donghe Township has unique tourism resources, gathering culture, landscape, ecology, and agriculture production in one.

Scenic Changbin

Changbin has an indigenous name, Pikakasawan. In Amis language, it means view terrace. This township is midway between Taitdong and Hualian. It was originally an indigenous country of Amis. Other ethnics began to migrate into this area during the Japanese Colonial Period; therefore, it is now a mixed village but the majority is still the Amis. Since prehistoric remains were discovered in this township, the original quiet farm village, all of a sudden, became a center of civilization, attracting flocks after flocks of foreign and domestic tourists to see the mystery inside of the village.

Roselle

Jinfeng Township has steep mountains and flourishing forests; therefore it is a heaven for wild animals since few men has treaded this country. In recent years, tribes along the Taimali Creek began to host the Masalu Tour. Jinfeng Township is one of the major spots along the tour route. The special ecology colored by the Paiwan culture is now shown to the world through the well-trained indigenous guides. Hot springs are also great tourist resources of this township.

Yanping Township was once a hunting ground of the Rukais. 1968, a baseball team started with bamboo sticks and stones, defeated the world champion, the Japanese team, and won the world championship. Hongye Baseball team stirred up a storm of junior league baseball game in Taiwan. Along the Luye Creek, hot springs accompanying the simple serene hill side tribes immerses the visitors in the relaxing tranquility. The outdoor hot springs are the greatest view spots of the green hills.  Recently, the Central Ridge National Park Administration has started a plan to improve transportation and tourism facilities. In the foreseeable future, the place will become one of the greatest holiday spots in the nation.

Scenic Haiduan

Haiduan Township is the largest township in Taitung County. The majority of the residents are the Bununs, who live by farming and hunting. A few years ago, the Bununs took the lead to seal off the Creek (Xinwulu Creek) and established the ecology protection zone, wishing to give the national treasure, Deep-body Shovelnose Minnow (Varicorhinus alticorpus Oshima) a room to breathe. The villagers set a great example, which preserves the greatest ecology in the country as well as infinite tourism resources for their children.

Daren Township nestles in a remote country; therefore, its natural beauty is well preserved. It is a holy land of white water rafters. As ecotourism becomes popular in recent years, it's pure and rich creek ecology has become one of the favorite spots of nature lovers. Viper and Formosa Lily are the most representative totems of the tribes. The crafty villagers are turning their ethnic colors into beautiful crafts.

Sampan

Qing Dynasty documents called Lanyu (Orchid Island) the "Red Head Island”. Because of its abundant orchids, the Island was renamed as Lanyu (Orchid Island) in 1946. It is a product of volcanic activities - the creator left a series of amazing spectacles on the island - there are special volcanic geology like the dragon head rock, the elephant nose, the helmet rock, the small bun hill, and the bun hills. Sampans are the representations of Yamis. Assembled boats are colored with geometric patterns. Roofs are lying on the ground! The secret of Yamis’s traditional underground houses lies under the roof and the two to 3 m underground are the classics of human civilizations. Yemi’s (Dawus) unique agriculture, fisheries, architecture, and tribal culture are treasured assets of not only Lanyu (Orchid Island) but also the whole world.

Lighthouse

Lyudao (Green Island), also known as the Burning Island, was once the home to the Yamis and Dawus (Lanyu). The island is surrounded by coral reefs, rich ocean ecologies, and highly developed erosion landscape. Along with thriving of tourism and relocation of the East Coast National Park Administration, Lyudao (Green Island) begins to shine like a jewel in the Pacific Ocean.
