Future Prospects

A Certain Future — Turning Taitung into a Global Health and Recreation Resort

Under the theme of “The LOHAS Capital; A Vacation Paradise” Taitung County has already become a well-rounded holiday resort. Sixteen townships, each having their own characteristics and functions, complement each other to bring the concept of “Holiday Resort” to fruition.
Taitung County is realizing the concept of a Global Health and Recreation Resort through the following: 1. Active development of an industry economy; 2. Solid base of health and medical facilities; 3. Solid foundation of knowledge-based education; 4. Comprehensive social welfare system; and 5. Diverse cultural activities.

Three major development axes- Sustainable Development; City of Health, The LOHAS Capital; A Vacation Paradise, and Artistic County; County of the Arts

1.Sustainable Development; City of Health-
Sustainable Development

(I)Sustainable Environment: Residents must reach a consensus to improve the health-related environment, which does not only mean that residents reach a certain level of health.

(II)Sustainable Society: This concept refers to a society of mutual respect. Taitung is the most diverse county in the nation in terms of ethnicity, and, additionally many foreigners have chosen Taitung to be their home. In the future, we hope more people from different backgrounds fall in love with this place and jointly develop it into a paradise.

(III)Sustainable Economy- Industry development is a continuous dynamic. “Blue Gold”- the deep sea water industry, “Green Gold”- high-tech agriculture and biotechnology, and “Chimney-less Industry”- the Tourism Industry are the key development areas of Taitung County.

A City of Health

The 11 functions set by the World Health Organization are quantified into four basic assessment indicators for a Healthy City: Health Index, Health Service Index, Environmental Index, and Socio-Economic Index. Taitung County has also entered into a joint-venture with National Taitung University for a Healthy City Plan.

The Taitung County Healthy City Office was officially opened on September 26th, 2007 for the three-year project - Taitung County Healthy City Research and Development Plan. The work team is divided into four sub-teams for work on Health, Environment, Social Affairs, and Administration sectors and joins industry, public sector, academia, and private sector forces with the aim to make Taitung County the best qualified Healthy County.

2.The LOHAS Capital; A Vacation Paradise

Through organic recreational agriculture, quality living industries, cultural and creative industries , environmental biotechnology, and e-government of high efficiency, Taitung County will become the LOHAS Capital; a Vacation Paradise in no time.

3. Artistic County; County of the Arts

Building an Artistic County - The aim is to build Taitung County into a County of the Arts through civilian art education.

Twelve Development Strategies- reinforce health and medical facilities, improve healthcare and social welfare, emphasize public safety and active hazard prevention, promote environmental health, develop the international tourism industry, develop transportation infrastructure, build a garden county, develop high-tech agriculture and green industries, develop diversified cultural activities, instill civilian art education, shorten the educational gap, and create an efficient government.
