NATAS Holiday Fair: Magistrate Huang

The National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS) debuted from August 11 to 13 at Suntec City in Singapore. A delegation from Taitung County Government, led by Magistrate Justin Huang, was present to promote the beautiful scenery of Taitung, Open of Surfing which will be held in Taitung late November, next year’s March/April IRONMAN 70.3 and other events. In line with the concept of modern health sports tourism, Taitung was able to become the spotlight at the expo.

“Known as Taiwan’s pure land, with rich marine resources and beautiful scenery, Taitung made Lonely Planet’s 2016 top ten destinations in Asia. The hot air balloon festival, which just ended, broke new records this year with over 480,000 visitors flocking to the county, with an average of 14,000 per day. It is definitely a worthwhile experience to come to Taitung, and savor in what it has to offer!” says Justin.

The Taiwan Open of Surfing, which started in 2011 and is held annually at the end of November, will be in cooperation with the World Surf League (WSL) this year. Men’s and women’s longboard championships will be part of the agenda as enthusiastic surfers from all over the world descend upon Jinzun, Taitung later this year. The event, which runs from November 23rd until December 3rd, will be filled with various water activities and planned travel itineraries. Not only will visitors be able to watch the surfing competitions, but they will also be privileged to admire the beautiful scenery of Taiwan’s east coast. Taitung has a unique water resources, including magnificent wave conditions, particularly during the northeast monsoon winds which produces a favorable surfing setting in Jinzun, Donghe Township. The Asian Surfing Championship has named Jinzun as the best surfing destination in Asia. The annual surfing championships is not only with the international standards, but also promotes domestic sporting trends.

IRONMAN 70.3 Taiwan and Challenge Taiwan, two prestigious triathlon events held in Taitung every year, are scheduled for March 17th, 2018 and April 28th 2018 respectively.

Not only is IRONMAN 70.3 an iconic international event in Asia and the world’s major cities, but was also the favorite for those willing to take part again next year in Taitung. After a nearly 30-year history of the Challenge Family, Taiung was selected to host Challenge Taiwan. Every year, thousands of local and international competitors flock to Taitung to take part in various events, such as relays, junior groups, half events and others. From swimming in Flowing Lake, to the ups and downs of Liyu Mountain and the beautiful east coast highway, be sure not to miss next year’s Challenge Taiwan triathlon event. Taitung’s lively city center, with pleasant farm and beach walkways, is a place for the whole family to enjoy. There’s something for everyone to do!

Owing to Taitung’s natural resources and rich culture, travel itineraries have never been more diverse, with activities on land, in the sea, and even up in the air a possibility! The 2017 international hot air balloon festival, which was held from late June to early August 2017 was held in Taitung. Also holding the title as the longest balloon festival event in the world, this year’s event broke new records by boasting thirty five special shape balloons from around the world. Night glow events, concerts and other activities complimented the event, creating a lively atmosphere up ion Luye Highland. Attracting more than 480,000 tourists (37% increase from last year), with an average of 14,000 per day, the event was a huge success.

The 2017 NATAS Travel Fair ended on August 13th. Taitung’s unique stand embodied its beauty, with pictures on display and caramel treats for anyone to try. It was definitely not one to miss!
